Megaman X vs. Zombies series: 2011-2022

Posted by NanoSoft - August 19th, 2022

Hey Newgrounds, since today is the 11th year anniversary of the Megaman X vs. Zombies crossover series of Megaman X and Plants vs. Zombies to discuss it a bit. Originally I was gonna publish the 7th final episode today, but since it was nearly finished a few weeks ago I couldn't wait to publish it then so I published it sooner once it was completed. The initial idea for the series, a crossover of Megaman X and Plants vs. Zombies, arose when I thought about what made SMBZ click with their audience, it being a crossover, so I thought what if I make my own crossover too? I picked two games I liked at the time, Megaman X4 and Plants vs. Zombies, to try to crossover and thought it could work well since the comedic aspects of PvZ could "balance out" the seriousness of the Megaman X stuff. That was my thinking for the whole series while it was being made. Something I'd like to note is that while the series is meant to be watched back to back, each episode is like it's own animation too, like how each song on an album is it's own thing while being part of a larger whole. While I love the entire series, the third episode is my favorite one overall. I love the music track I picked for it, I love the combat sequences in it, there's a section later in the episode in which X uses many of his Maverick acquired powers against the zombies, thought it would amaze X fans in particular. It amazed me at least. It's been such a journey working on the series for as long as I did, each time I neared completion of an episode, I'd get more ideas on what to do next for the series, new possibilities and ideas which encouraged my creativity to continue for future episodes. That's a big reason why I made as many episodes as I did without a large following from fans...part of me wishes I had a fan base that wanted more episodes, but this smaller approach might have actually benefitted me since I could get away with alot of things that a fanbase might have not wanted, I could experiement more freely with ideas in the series and follow up on them rather than having a fanbase that has different ideas of what they wanted out of the series. Anyway, it's been a real journey working on the series for as long as I have been working on it, 11 years 2011-2022, I met some really interesting people along the way such as one of my sprite animator influences! That put a smile on my face for like two weeks straight lol. But yea..now that this series concluded, here's to more creative works in the future hopefully!
